Holiday Hair Tips For Your New Hairstyle

Holiday Tips For Your New Hairstyle

It’s that time of year again! You’ve had your Hair Transplantation procedure done, and you’re ready to show off at the company Holiday party or the family get-together. But you want to make sure you look your absolute best and leave everyone wowed, right?

Were going to look at a few pieces of advice to help make sure that you not only look like a rock star (or country star, or hip-hop star, or whatever kind of star you prefer!) at your holiday outings, but ensure your Hair Transplantation stays healthy and strong after the season ends too.

Pre-Holiday Planning

You know they’re coming – invitations to parties, events, church groups, company shindigs, family gatherings – so you want to start preparing early to make sure you’re ready when all of those outings hit at once! Let’s get started.

Watch what you eat (and drink!) leading up to the Holidays!

Its easy to not change what you’re doing as the holidays approach. We all expect to expand the waistline a bit during this time of year, so we just trudge forward and put on our holiday stretchy pants and move past it with promises of New Year’s Resolutions to lose the weight we gained!

If you’ve had a Hair Transplantation procedure like Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), you will want to take slightly extra care to ensure that your hair looks its best over the holidays.

Most of us enjoy a little bit of Uncle Tim’s “spicy” egg nog or Aunt Sues mulled wine over the holidays, and that’s great! But if you’ve had Hair Transplantation done, especially recently prior to the Holidays, you will want to make sure to cut back on your alcohol intake prior to the busy party week.

That isn’t to say you wont be able to drink at all (more on that later!), just that if you prepare by cutting down before the party’s start, your hair will be healthier going into the holidays than if not.

The same thing goes for your diet. Pumpkin pie, custards, candy canes, fruit cake (I guess some people like fruit cake?), and all the other sweets from the Holidays are going to bring a lot of sugars and other empty calories into your diet for those couple of weeks. That means that the more you do to boost your body’s healthy food intake leading up to these events, the better prepared you’ll be for the deficiency you might get while loading up on those delicious desserts!

Again, this doesn’t mean you have to starve yourself leading up to the holidays, just make sure to eat lots of healthy foods that are rich in the ingredients for healthy hair – fish, vegetables, and fruits high in Vitamins A, C, D, and E, not to mention the Omega oils. Healthy doses of real olive oil can also be good for your diet here.

Hair Transplantation in the form of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), as well as the previously mentioned FUE and FUT, demand a lot from your body to ensure healthy hair growth, and that starts with the blood vessels and goes through scalp and hair health as well. Making sure you are getting all of the nutrients necessary to maintain that healthy new look is going to be even more important when you know you’re going to binge on Holiday goodies (which is perfectly okay!)

Make sure your hair is a-life of the party! (It’s bad, I know)

Making sure you eat and drink appropriately prior to the Holidays is important, but don’t forget to take care of your hair directly as well!

Over the holidays, people like to clip things into their hair or use props to dress up like elves, santa, reindeer, and other figures from various cultures and beliefs. While you can certainly join in the frivolity yourself if you’ve had a Hair Transplantation procedure, you might want to consider a few things when you do so!

  • Avoid barrette-style hair clips! These tend to tug and clamp onto hair, potentially damaging the hair or pulling it out completely. Particularly if you’ve had FUE, this could cause damage to the carefully manicured look you just gained!
  • Avoid hair bands that have spikes or points that are designed to go into hair to hold them into place! These spikes are especially problematic for FUE and FUT procedures, even more so if the procedure was recent, but can also hinder the growth stimulated by LLLT.
  • If you plan to participate in pictures or other festive looks, consider bringing your own hat that you can use throughout the event! A loose-fitting Santa Hat is ideal, and they make many different designs these days with elf ears and reindeer antlers if that’s your thing!
  • Make sure to let your scalp breathe! Don’t wear anything for the entire event. Not only do you want to show off that new do, but leaving the scalp open and without pressure on it keeps the follicles in their natural state and your hair looking great!

Jingle Bell Rock Responsibly

It was mentioned in the pre-game section above, but it’s important to remember that if you can, as much as possible you should watch what you eat and drink during the festivities!

Besides the food and beverage intake, remember that smoking is one of the well-known causes of damaged and brittle hair, which means that if you had a Hair Transplantation such as Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) particularly, you can potentially cause damage to the area your doctor transplanted if you continue to smoke.

As always, just be aware that if you want to make the most of your look, you have to take care of your body as a whole first!

But wait, all this sounds like a list of things I can’t do. What gives??!!

Au contraire! The Holidays are about getting together with friends, family, co-workers, and others to enjoy each other’s company and have a lot of fun.

Thanks to your surgeon (perhaps the noted Hair Transplantation Specialist Dr. Joseph Williams), you have a newfound confidence and look going into this season that will let you relax, have fun, and not worry about making sure your hair looks good – because it does!

Enjoy it! Party like it’s 1999 (or 1989, or 1979, or hey whenever!) and be confident that you look great.

If you follow all of your surgeon’s instructions and take care of your body, scalp, and hair, you will continue to look amazing and have your new do as part of what you are thankful for this Holiday season.
