The most common type of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia. This is the hereditary form of hair loss and occurs when the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) damages the sensitive follicles. Women may require blood tests and/or a scalp biopsy to rule out the other medical causes prior to receiving their restoration. Contrary to what most people think, hair loss is typically not caused by clogged pores, aggressive or excessive shampooing, wearing hats or an excessive diet.
Will I experience discomfort during hair restoration?
Except for minimal discomfort that accompanies the placement of the local anesthetic, hair restoration is a well tolerated office procedure. There may be some numbness after the procedure which will resolve over time.
Will additional procedures be necessary?
Ninety percent of Dr. Williams’ patients are satisfied after only one procedure. Some do choose additional procedures based on their personal goals for added density.
What about scarring?
Scarring is minimal when restoration is performed by a skilled physician, and Dr. Williams patient success stories are a testament to this. However, Dr. Williams strongly encourages you to read about the false advertising claims made about “scarless surgery” in hair transplantation, and especially the claims made about surgery performed by a machine. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery has stated “The fact is that any incision whether by machine or hand that enters the skin beyond the most superficial of depths causes a scar to form, and there is currently no machine capable of automatically performing all the aspects of the hair restoration surgery. Available technology can only assist trained surgeons performing hair restoration surgery.” Hair restoration surgery should only be performed by a licensed physician. Is hair restoration affordable?
YES! Since it is a permanent solution, the cost is very reasonable over the course of time. We accept all major credit cards and participate in several financing programs. After all, hair restoration is an investment for those who wish to reinstate a more youthful look!
How long is a typical procedure?
Typically, you would be at the institute anywhere from 4 to 8 hours depending on the amount of grafts needed. Dr. Williams performs one procedure at a time in a comfortable and enjoyable setting. Dr. Williams believes the patient should be relaxed and able to communicate during the procedure so they are aware of who is doing the procedure and what procedure is being performed. In Dr. Williams’ hands, the procedure could be compared to a precise skin biopsy using a simple numbing technique.
Aren't all hair restoration practices the same?
NO! We recommend you research the experience and qualifications of the physician who will perform your hair transplant procedure. Dr. Williams has been specifically specializing in hair restoration for over 15 years and is a board certified surgeon. Make sure the physician is actually performing the procedure and the procedure is NOT performed by an unlicensed technician from out of town or country.
Do all practices use the same hair restoration techniques?
NO! There are multiple techniques and technologies that are offered here at Advanced Medical Hair Institute that other practices do NOT offer. If other practices cannot offer a number of procedures based on what’s right for you, the patient, you may get less than an optimal result. One procedure technique is not suitable for every restoration.
Can I ask to speak to other patients, and see before and after photos of someone with hair loss similar to mine?
ABSOLUTELY! You should be able to speak with the clinic’s clients and see before and after photos of patients whose situation was similar to yours. When reviewing before and after photos, ask if the photos are actual patients of the physician offering the service or are they are stock images provided by the hair restoration equipment manufacturer.
Can I get a guaranteed natural, undetectable result?
YES! Dr. Williams offers a guarantee of a natural undetectable result. Density (thickness) may require an additional procedure based on quality of hair, color, curl and hairstyle.
Do you do other hair transplant procedures?
YES! Hair transplantation is a solution for most types of hair loss. We also transplant hair into other thinning areas including eyebrows, mustaches, sideburns and scarred/injured areas.
